Elon Musk has revealed that Apple missed on buying Tesla during its “darkest days” of the Model 3 rollout. The Tesla CEO said that Apple CEO Tim Cook “refused” to take the meeting.
Musk made the reveal in response to a tweet about how Apple’s desire to make and sell an electric, autonomous vehicle. According to Musk, Tesla was worth about one-tenth of its current value. The electric vehicle company is ending a remarkable year where its stock price rose and made it into the most valuable automaker on the planet. In 2017, Tesla had not yet produced an electric vehicle at high volume and was losing money.

Reuters reports that one reason Apple is reportedly changing directions as regards electric vehicles it has made progress on a potential breakthrough with regards to the battery. Apple has reportedly been developing a lithium iron phosphate battery that can be packaged more tightly in the car’s battery pack. This will cut down on the battery’s weight while increasing the potential energy density.
Although Musk has previously said that an electric car was “the next logical thing” for Apple to work on.
He has also mocked the smartphone giant for its electric vehicle endeavors. “It’s good that Apple is moving and investing in this direction. But cars are very complex compared to phones or smartwatches,” he said.
