Tesla has already demonstrated the toughness of its upcoming Cybertruck at its unveiling after making it withstand blows from a hammer. Now it seems that is not enough as CEO Elon Musk hints on Twitter that the final product will have an even tougher skin.
Replying to a Teslarati report on SpaceX’s new full-scale Starship prototype, which is in construction; Musk answered a follower’s query by confirming that the automaker would also be updating the alloy of the all-electric Cybertruck.
what about the alloy on Cybertruck? is that changing too?

Tesla used cold-rolled 30X stainless steel in making the skin of the Cybertruck at its unveiling. The material is very tough and it withstood blows from chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen’s testing, coming out unscathed.
At the time, Tesla said that the 30X cold-rolled exoskeleton was the best that it could find. It also said if they found a better material, they would use it. And with Musk’s reply, Tesla may have found a more durable skin.
According to Teslarati, the new skin will likely be a new alloy of 304 stainless steel. The metal is also what Musk’s other company, SpaceX, is using to build its future rocket products.
However, it is still unknown if Tesla will use the exact metal as the skin for the Cybertruck. Musk said that due to alloy constituents and forming methods consistently changing, “traditional names like 304L will become more of an approximation.”
Whichever material Tesla decides to make the skin of the Cybertruck, one thing is certain, it will be strong. The demonstrations from the unveiling have proved that. Now, it can only be tougher.
