#EndSARS: Federal Government Announce Ban Of SARS From Roads But Nigerians Are Not Impressed

Following the recent agitation and outcry from citizens, the Nigerian government has issued a statement saying SARS and F-SARS have been banned from major roads.

 

According to a press release from the presidency and the police force official Twitter handle, F-SARS are no longer authorized to check properties of citizens like phones or laptops.

SARSThey’re also to quit Nigerian major roads and streets and respond only to robberies or kidnapping.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has banned the personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other Tactical Squads of the Force including the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad and other Tactical Squads operating at the Federal, Zonal and Command levels, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties. Stop and search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks, traffic checks, etc – with immediate effect. In addition, no personnel of the Force is authorized to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti.” part of the statement read.

However, Nigerians are not having it. Apparently, over the last three years, SARS unit has been banned repeatedly.

People are now calling for a total disbandment of the group.

Meanwhile the agitation on social media especially Twitter is brewing up a storm as several celebrities have joined to amplify the cry to #EndSARS.

The activities of SARS within the country have worsened over the years as they continue to kill, maim and extort Nigerians in wanton abandon.

Many are wondering what it will take for the government to put an end to the nefarious police unit. There are also talks of a mass action protest by citizens.
