Find My Device: Apple’s Airpods To Get The Find Function And Others

Apple’s Airpods seems to be getting new features, the public release of iOS 15 would bring Airpods the Find my device. This feature is already available for the more expensive AirPods pro, and iPhones.

An iOS 15 beta code seen by 9to5Mac shows that Apple will use the same Bluetooth technology to locate Airpods when nearby. Although this doesn’t allow a lock function in case of theft, someone can connect the AirPods to other devices.

The Airpods Beta iOS internal code says,

These AirPods are linked to your Apple ID. Removing them will allow another person to configure Find My Network. […] Removing these AirPods will allow another person to configure Find My Network and it will no longer be linked to your Apple ID.

Airpods Max and Pro owners can now register their headphones to their Apple ID. Unfortunately, Airpods first-gen and second-gen users won’t have this functionality in the next update.

Airpods Max users can trigger the find my Airpod functionality by holding the noise cancellation and the digital crown together for 12 seconds. This will unpair and pair the headphones from/to the Find My app.

For Airpods Pro users, the process is a bit quirky. Holding your fingers to the speaker grills while pressing the controls stem multiple times should do the trick.

It’s sad that Airpods first-gen and second-gen users won’t have this find my device functionality. Just Maybe the rumoured Airpods 3 would have the nice functionality. This would prompt users to upgrade their Airpods to the 3 gen headphones.
