The new Fitbit OS 5.1 update will now give Fitbit owners the option of using Google Assistant as their device’s voice assistant in place of Amazon’s Alexa. Alexa had been available on the watches since its launch.
The update also allows users to take calls on the watch when their phone is nearby, dictate text replies from their wrist and access more health data while they sleep. However, the feature to dictate text replies from the wrist is only available on Android devices at the moment.
Fitbit is releasing the update to OS 5.1 just after one month of its last software update. The last update activated the built-in electrocardiogram on the Fitbit Sense in the US, parts of Europe, and Hong Kong.

Blood oxygen readings will automatically be tracked during sleep. This data was previously available the next morning but the user had to select a SpO2 watch face before sleeping.
Users can choose between Alexa and Google’s Assistant by finding the Voice Assistant option in the app and selecting their smartwatch model in the account tab. You’ll need to log in to your Google if you prefer to use Google Assistant. Also, Alexa will now voice its responses, instead of the previous method of displaying the responses on the screen.
Unfortunately, older Fitbit models like the Versa 2 and Ionic won’t get the OS 5.1 update.
