Five Popular Software Companies Created In This Decade

We bring you five popular software companies founded in this decade as it comes to an end. Each of the listed companies was found on Wikipedia search for companies created from 2009 to 2019. They are also listed according to how long they have existed. Check the list to see if your favorites made our cut.

 

1. Venmo (2009)

Venmo is a popular mobile payment service. PayPal currently owns the company after buying it in from the original creators. Andrew Kortina and Iqram Magdon-Ismail initially authored the software in 2009 but sold it to Braintree before it fell into PayPal’s hands. Venmo had handled $12 billion in transactions by the first quarter of 2018. Although senders and receivers both have to live in the US, it has become very popular. It now offers instant transfers as against the usual transfers that take one to three days but for 1% of the amount or $10 (anyone that is lesser).

 

2. Twitch (2011)

Amazon currently owns Twitch, a video streaming service. Initially, Justin Kan and Emmet Shear founded the service. It focuses primarily on video game streaming including eSports competitions, music broadcasts, creative content and “in real life” streams. As of 2018, there are 15 million daily users of this service and it has partnered with over 27,000 channels.

3. Oculus VR (2012)

Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov and Nate Mitchell founded Oculus VR in 2012. It took just two years for the company to become a big deal and became valued at $2.3 billion. Facebook currently owns the company that specialises in virtual reality software and hardware products.

4.Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (2015)

The split of the Hewlett-Packard company led to the formation of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Founded in 2015 it is also commonly called HPE. The information technology company has two divisions. There is the Enterprise Group focused on servers, storage, networking, consulting and support, and the Financial Services. By 2018, HPE made $30.9 billion in net revenue and is one of the biggest software companies on our list.

 

5. Dell Technologies (2016)

When Dell and EMC merged, the result was this multinational software company in 2016. It also focuses on computer hardware as well as computer software and cloud computing. Dell’s products also include personal computers, servers, smartphones, televisions, computer software and computer security.
