Google sometimes blocks some sites for various reasons. It could be because the website hosts a malware that can harm your computer, or Google thinks the site has infected content uploaded by users or due to a temporary infection. Whatever the problem is, Google always makes steps to contact the host about the issues.
In case these sites are important for you to access, whether for registration or personal purposes, here are four possible ways to open blocked sites on Google Chrome.
1. Reset Google Chrome to the factory default setting
It could be that you have unconsciously tampered with the browser settings so follow these steps to fix the issue.
- Launch Google Chrome.
- Click on the Chrome menu button.
- Choose “Settings” from the menu to open the Settings page.
- Now, click “Show advanced settings” link.
- Finally, click on “Reset as factory default”.
2. Turn off the firewall
Some website uses cookies to optimise results. It is then blocked by the firewall of the operating system, so if you wish to open those websites, you must turn off the firewall. This is however not a very safe option.
3. Change the Chrome settings
- Launch Google Chrome and click the Chrome menu button.
- Choose “Settings” from the menu to open the Settings page.
- Click the “Show advanced settings” link.
- Then click the “Change proxy settings” option in the Network section.
- Click the “Security” tab.
- Select the “Restricted sites” zone.
- Click the “Sites” button to open the Restricted Sites window.
- Select the blocked website from the Websites list, and then click the “Remove” button to unblock it.
- Click “Close” to close the Restricted Sites window.
- Finally, click “OK” to close the Internet Properties window.
4. Unblock the website from antivirus
Some antiviruses can block certain websites. To unblock a site, you may have to disable the antivirus temporarily so that you can access the site. You can also insert the website URL into the list of trusted sites on the antivirus. This unblocks the site.
