Fuji Maestro Easy Sawaba Dies At 71

Veteran Nigerian Fuji musician, Alhaji Iyanda Isiaka Sawaba, aka Easy Sawaba is dead. The late Fuji maestro died on Tuesday, April 6, 2022, at the age of 71.

The Ibadan-based music icon died at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, after suffering a partial stroke.

Although the deceased musician was a native of Ile Aperin, Ibadan, Oyo State, he was born in Ghana on November 11, 1951.

The highlight of his career in the music industry was in the 1970s and 1980s. He has been credited to have released over 20 albums.

He became more popular with his leading role among the then younger generation of Fuji musicians who supported the late Fuji icon, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister when the supremacy rivalry between the former and General Kollington Ayinla was red hot.

The late Fuji singer was formerly signed to Babalaje Records. The record label is owned by the late Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji.

He later pitched his tent with the Keji Okunowo-led defunct Sony Music in 1992 where he released a successful album titled “Message”, produced by Laolu Akins.

He released his last album  “Correction” in 2018. His last known performance was at the KOF Sports cafe in 2019.

Easy Sawaba was spotted in Lagos in March 2022 at the first colloquium in honour of the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja GRA in Lagos.
