A site targeted at gamers, nerd, geeks (however you choose to call it) is shutting down after 20 years. ThinkGeek is closing the official website and migrating operations to its parent company GameStop website.

According to GameStop, they are “engaging in a strategic business transformation initiative to build the GameStop of the future.”

They explain that they want to reorganise the “ThinkGeek business by streamlining the operations of (our) ThinkGeek.com e-commerce platform and transitioning it within (our) GameStop.com omnichannel platform.”

This means that the company is now consolidating under one brand name. Therefore, from 2nd July 2019, the site will no longer be accessible. However, the company says it will keep the over 40 physical retail locations it has across America.

GameStop acquired ThinkGeek in 2015 to help it expand its offering in collectable items. The store fast became a go-to for geek-minded people. Fan items for Star Trek, Dungeons and Dragons, and other gaming accessories could be found there.

The site had exciting fandom items that appealed to the geek squad. It also had interesting fun pieces that were just cute to own.

The company also had an annual April Fool’s Day prank with products that were outrageous and over the top.

A lot of fans may not be in on this, but this could be for the best.
