Google Cloud recently announced a new solution that makes it easier to install the Spinnaker continuous delivery service on Google’s cloud. Spinnaker, originally created by Netflix, is now being jointly developed by both Google and Netflix.

Netflix made Spinnaker open-sourced in 2014. It has since become the open-source platform for enterprises. Companies like Cisco, Adobe and Samsung now use it to speed up their development in recent times.

The Spinnaker for Google Cloud Platform runs on the Google Kubernetes Engines. It is also an easy-to-install process as it only requires a few clicks. Once installed, it will have all the core tools needed for the user interface service.

Users paying for the service will have the resources used by the Google Kubernetes Engine installed. They will also have the Cloud Memorystore for Redis and pretty much other resources they need in the Google Cloud. Despite Google pre-configuring Spinnaker for testing and deploying codes on these engines, it will also work with any other public cloud.

Spinnaker also integrates with Cloud Build and features support for automatic backups. It also has integrated monitoring and auditing available with the Google Stackdriver. Cloud Build is Google’s recently-launched continuous integration service.

The Tech Lead for Google’s Spinnaker, Matt Duftler, said,

“We want to make sure that the solution is great both for developers and DevOps or SRE teams. Developers want to get moving fast with a minimum of overhead.”

Platform teams can allow them to do that safely by encoding their recommended practice into Spinnaker, using Spinnaker for GCP to get up and running quickly and start onboard development teams.”
