Google Bard AI Launches Publicly In US, UK

Summary:

  • Google launch its new AI chatbot tool, Bard, in the US and UK as a challenger to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
  • The product is currently in the testing phase and has been used by approximately 80,000 Google employees to improve its public version.
  • Google CEO Sundar Pichai has stated that Bard is not yet integrated with search but that it may be in the future.

Google laucnch its Bard AI tool in the US and UK to OpenAI’s ChatGPT a run for its money. The chatbot is still in the testing phase and its signup page says ‘experiment’.

We were not able to take it for a spin because it is not yet available in Nigeria. However, it is expected to do basically the same things that ChatGPT could do in its early stages.

In an announcement, Google CEO Sundar Pichai assured the world that Bard is not just launching without inhouse testing. About 80,000 employees have used it and their feedback have been incorporated into the first public product. He adds that with wider usage, he expects the AI to surprise them.

Despite the precautions, the tool is far from 100% safe. “Things will go wrong. But the user feedback is critical to improving the product and the underlying technology,” Pichai said.

You’ll recall that the company had cited some problems that they cannot predict as the reason for delaying launching the chatbot at the same time that OpenAI launched it in 2022. Even ChatGPT has shown that it is not beyond reproach despite its makers having access to more feedback.

Google is not integrating Bard with Search just yet, although we know that it is its ultimate destination.

According to a coverage by Aljazeera, Bard believes that it is superior to ChatGPT because it can access and process information in real-time through Google Search.

As OpenAI’s CEO said, ChatGPT may not be the search engine killer that will topple Google’s dominance because the company always finds a way to keep up. What is more, if it manages to remain free of charge despite offering optimal results, it may stand an even greater chance to retain its crown. Although, we can’t be sure of that in this subscription-driven world.
