Google is completing a Pixel ecosystem to compete with Apple

Google’s Pixel ecosystem is approaching completeness with the announcement of its smartwatch and upcoming Android tablet. As Jon Porter of The Verge pointed out, this is the same strategy that Apple used to turn itself into the $2.3 trillion international company that it is today.

With the entirety of its own hardware products, Google (and by extension, its parent company, Alphabet) can become the most valuable tech company in the world. Currently, it sits at number 3 behind Apple and Microsoft. However, it is making several simultaneous moves that would make it one giant ecosystem.

With its software end covered, Google’s next focus is hardware products. It had started with the most important of products, a smartphone of its own. And since it owns the Android OS, leveraging it to make other devices will be quite easy. At Google I/O, it officially announced its Pixel Watch at Google I/O, a byproduct of its Fitbit acquisition – and a coming tablet.

This is no different from what Apple already has with the AirPods, Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, Macs, and so on.

Besides controlling the market entirely, a tech ecosystem favours the company because it is easier to push out updates. However, while Apple controls its own hardware space, Google may have a slight edge because of its software penetration that has already been established over the past two decades.

It is worth noting that Google and Alphabet will be under stricter scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
