Google is reportedly facing a new antitrust investigation in California. If true, that will mean that Google is facing antitrust investigations in every state in the US except Alabama.

A Politico report says that the recent scrutiny focuses on Google’s acquisitions and its dominance and conduct in the ad tech market and search markets.

In September 2019, the attorneys general from the 50 states in the US announced an antitrust investigation into Google’s advertising and search businesses. California and Alabama were the only two states that did not participate in the probe. However, California is now launching a separate investigation of its own.

This is also separate from the Justice Department’s broad antitrust review it announced last year. Google is reportedly the focus of the department’s review with the body working closely with state-level investigations.

Google in September 2019, said that the federal agency had requested information from it. According to Politico, the Justice Department will begin a lawsuit in August 2020. However, it is unknown if the state-level investigations will continue separately after the suit.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai is expected to testify later in July 2020 before the US House Judiciary antitrust subcommittee. CEOs from Amazon, Apple, and Facebook will also testify before Congress as part of this investigation.

A spokesperson for California’s attorney general refused to comment on the existence of the investigations.

“To protect the integrity of our work, it’s our practice not to comment on any pending or potential investigation, even to confirm or deny their existence,” a spokesperson for the attorney general told Gizmodo.
