Google has removed Paytm from its Play Store because it violated the platform’s policies concerning gambling. Paytm is India’s largest mobile e-commerce website.
The platform offers instant online recharge, movie ticket booking, train and bus ticket booking, electricity bill, and order tracking services. It also has its own electronic wallet, coupons and digital gold.
Google took Paytm down from the Play Store because it went against its rules on online betting. Bloomberg mentioned that while a spokeswoman with the company confirmed the action, she did not give any further explanation.

Google released the following statement on its India blog, “We don’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies.”
Paytm had been advertising a ‘Scratch and Win’ promo for all payments carried out on its app. A representative on the payment service says that it will remove the promo from its app. The company says its app will soon return to the Play Store platform.
Meanwhile, Paytm does not actually offer real gambling services but it has virtual fantasy games where players use real money as stakes. While Google may return Paytm to its Play Store for now, it may terminate its developer accounts if it repeatedly violates policies.
