Google’s parent company, Alphabet is telling its employees to work from home, to reduce the potential of spreading and contracting coronavirus. The company had earlier told all its staff from Washington State to work from home.
Now, Google is asking all its staff in Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Africa to work remotely. Google has almost 100 employees across 11 offices in the US and Canada alone.
Alphabet’s CEO Sundar Pichai had also urged people to contribute to social distancing via a tweet.
Contributing to social distancing if you are able to, helps the overall community spread and most importantly, will help offset the peak loads through critical healthcare systems and also saves it for people in need. (based on expert advice). Please contribute if you are able to https://t.co/RNUh2kSyIJ

In a memo to its employees, Chris Rackow, Google’s vice president of global security, wrote:
“Out of an abundance of caution, and for the protection of Alphabet and the broader community, we now recommend you work from home if your role allows.”
Google to establish COVID-19 fund for employees
In a blogpost Google said it’s “establishing a COVID-19 fund that will enable all our temporary staff and vendors, globally, to take paid sick leave if they have potential symptoms of COVID-19, or can’t come into work because they’re quarantined. Working with our partners, this fund will mean that members of our extended workforce will be compensated for their normal working hours if they can’t come into work for these reasons.”
Alphabet, however, says its offices will remain open for employees whose roles require they have to physically present.
The companies guidance for its Asian offices varies from country to country, however, it shut its Chinese office earlier.
