Google TV now supports multiple profiles

Google TV is rolling out support for multiple profiles, which makes it possible for more than one user to use an account. Also, it saves users from having to use the available Kids Profile and sift through children’s entertainment recommendations all day.

The multiple profile support comes through a server-side update, and The Verge says that you may have to either reboot or reinstall the app to start seeing it. You will see a splash screen that reads, “Introducing profiles on Google TV,” and you can then add another Google account. Also, you can access the menu to switch accounts by holding down the home button.

A new account allows you to customise the interface how you prefer, and it starts to show different watchlists and recommendations based on what each profile owner watches. You can add a new account in a matter of minutes.

Just like Netflix’s multiple profiles on the same account, Google TV’s latest feature will make it tolerable to share your account. Individual users can now curate their likes and not interfere with the other person’s viewing experience. It also has the “Continue watching” row for every account.

Note that the feature started rolling out for Chromecast with Google TV owners first, and other owners may have to wait before they can start using it as well.
