Hackers leaked confidential details about patients online after a French hospital failed to meet up their ransom demand, which was in multimillion of dollars.
According to reports, the affected medical institution is Corbeil-Essonnes hospital in France. The leaked info contains details like national security numbers, medical scans results, and lab analyses.
Although the demand had been made about a month before the leak, the hospital did not pay the bad actors. In a Twitter statement by France minister of health, Francois Braun, he condemned the act, calling it ‘unspeakable disclosure’.

The issue of hackers targeting health institutions is becoming a bigger problem these days. Since the COVID pandemic, health agencies have become lucrative targets to this group on internet miscreants.
For France, the problem seems to be bigger even. According to Gadgets 360, President Emmanuel Macron announced an additional EUR1 billion to aide cybersecurity in the country in 2021.
Besides the economic strain that hackers in the health industry are causing, there is also the lives that their actions endangers. For example, when it became apparent that their system had been compromised, Corbeil-Essonnes hospital shut down its emergency services and sent many of its patients to other institutions.
Now, with their sensitive data available for download on the dark web, these patients are open to all sorts of scams and possible identity theft.
