It looks like the new Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is not yet a gaming favourite. It has a very slow start on its opening weekend compared to Pokémon Go from the same makers.

Niantic released Harry Potter: Wizards Unite last Friday, 21st June 2019. Just like its predecessor Pokémon Go, it uses AR to project creatures and characters from the world of Harry Potter to the real world. It uses the phone’s camera to do this.

Both Pokémon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite are free to play. However, players can purchase things in the app.

The data from Sensor Tower, an app-monitoring site suggested that Wizards Unite, was installed by 3 million players on its first weekend. Despite the fact that it is not yet out in South Korea and Japan, it made $1.1 million in players’ in-app spending.

In contrast, Pokémon Go made 24 million in-app sales from Australia, the US and New Zealand. It did this within the first four days of its launch. It also pulled more than $28 million in player in-app spending.

Wizards Unite is not totally doing badly though. It was at the top of iPhone downloads in 28 countries. It is estimated that the game will generate $10 million in its first month. But that will be a far cry from Pokémon: Go’s $206 million.

Another Harry Potter game by Jam City, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery also did better. It made $7 million from players in its opening weekend.
