Here is why United States FCC added Kaspersky to list of national security threats

Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky is now on the list of national security threats after the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) added it over the weekend. Why?

If you have been following the news or even listening to recent conversations, then you should know about the Russo-Ukraine conflict, Russia invading Ukraine. Kaspersky is paying the hefty price of US sanctions against its home country.

Companies on the United States list of entities have included Chinese companies due to the bad blood between countries and the allegations that China uses them for espionage. While Huawei and ZTE, the two biggest firms affected by this blacklist, have continually denied any wrongdoing, their status has not changed.

The effect of being on this list is that businesses in the US cannot buy products or services from these blacklisted companies with ‘federal subsidies.’ And many businesses of note are on subsidies. Kaspersky will be losing out on several enterprise customers, which makes up the bulk of its revenue.

The cybersecurity solution company released a statement to deny doing anything wrong and pointed out that the reason for it being added to the list was mainly political and not because it is a threat. Of course, as expected, this did nothing.

Kaspersky said that it would continue to cooperate with the US government and the FCC, but this will do nothing. The infamous squeeze that Huawei has been going through in the past two years is scary, and the Kaspersky Labs may have to start looking elsewhere for customers to sell to and those to buy from.
