Google has revealed that the Street View feature on Google Maps is as much for the company’s benefit, as it is for its customers. You can use Street View in the Street View gallery or the Street View app, not just the Google Maps.
Armed with this tool, people have been able to explore world landmarks, see natural wonders, and enter inside museums, arenas, restaurants, or small businesses — all from the comfort of their homes. Yet, the feature greatly benefits the search company as well.
In a blog announcement, the company said: “Street View is also an essential part of how we map the world.”
Google uses a combination of the feature and AI to update Google Maps with such things as: newly opened businesses, new hours at restaurants, speed limit information, and more. This is how the company manages to keep its Google Maps as up-to-date as possible.

With Live View, Google provides navigation instructions to help users arrive at their destination in as less time as possible.
Also, and probably most impressive, Google has used Street View and aerial images as well as AI to create ‘rich, digital model of places around the world.’ It recently added new collections of places like The Pyramids of Meroë in Sudan and Les Invalides in France, as part of its 15th anniversary.
You can see inside these locations from anywhere you are in the world. Also, if you don’t know where to start. You can go to the 154th floor of the Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates or the iconic Eiffel Tower in France.
Here is how to access Google Maps Street View:
- Open the Google Maps app Maps.
- Search for a place or drop a pin on the map.
- To drop a pin, touch and hold a place on the map.
- At the bottom, tap the place name or address.
- Scroll and select the photo labeled “Street View” or select the thumbnail with a Street View icon (or a 360 symbol).
- When you’re done, at the top left, tap Back Back.
