The Nigerian Government on Friday 4th June 2021 announced its suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria via its verified Federal Ministry of Information and culture Twitter account. This is after the recent ban on cryptocurrency in Nigeria two months ago.
This came as shocking news to Nigerians, precisely its youth. The statement made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, and signed by his media aide Segun Adeyemi, read as follows: “The Federal Government has suspended indefinitely the operations of the microblogging and social networking service Twitter in Nigeria”.
The minister said the actions of the social media platform were capable of undermining Nigeria’s Corporate existence. This was after Twitter deleted tweets of the Nigerian President after it violated its abusive behaviour policy, and suspended his official account for 12 hours allowing it to be in a “read-only mode”.
So hey, how do you bypass this ban? Easy VPN, VPN… Here are the best free VPNs you can lay your hands on currently, and paid ones.
What is a VPN? The acronym stands for a “Virtual Private Network”. They are mainly free services, and in some cases paid with added features, that allow users to access a protected network connection when using public networks.
VPN makes it almost impossible for third parties to track your online activities, they also hide your online identity, while encrypting your online presence when you surf the internet.

You Might Need A VPN But Free Ones May Be Bad For You
How do they work? VPNs hide your IP address, redirecting it through a distant remote server operated by a VPN host. This means if you use a VPN to browse, its server changes to your source of data. In reality, your Internet Service Provider and others cannot see the websites you visited or your online activities.
With the Twitter ban, you cannot access the site from Nigeria, as standard connections use the local servers in the country to determine your location. Service providers like Glo, Mtn, Airtel, 9mobile will not allow you to use their server to access Twitter. However, if you use a VPN, you can switch to a server anywhere where Twitter is accessible in the world.
There is literally no tracking by regulatory authorities because you are not using a Nigerian IP address. And hey, a bonus tip; you can also use VPNs to watch and download Movies not available for Nigeria on streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu amongst others.
