Friendship is one of life’s greatest joys. Having a friend can be all the comfort you need to make it through life’s challenges. As kids, our friends by default were the people we went to school with or the children of our parents’ friends. But as an adult navigating our careers and ambitions, it can be very hard to maintain an active social life. Don’t worry though. We have some tips on how to make new friends as an adult.
1. Try your workplace
If you are like most people, you spend most of your time at work. There is bound to be at least one person you can vibe with. If you can work together to achieve goals, the likelihood of you getting along would be high.
2. Check online
You can link up with like-minded people online and form friendships there. If done right, you can create long-lasting meaningful bonds and become friends with people you probably would never have met in person.
3. Attend social events and activities
Speaking of like-mindedness, when you involve yourself in social events and activities that you enjoy like volunteering, partying or attending book club meetings, you can meet interesting people to make friends with. The fact that you already have mutual interests is a good way to begin.
4. Meet old friends
Considering the fact that people change, someone that used to be an old friend can become a new friend. As you develop different interests and character traits, the chances are that someone you knew from the past could have also changed enough to be compatible with you. You never know.
5. Try your go-to places
If you have anywhere you frequently go to, like a gym or a bar, you can look for other regulars to make friends with. You could just meet them up and make conversation. You never know where it may lead.
