Google Maps Live View is Google’s new Augmented Reality AR tool that gives walking directions. It is now available to a wide range of iPhones and Android devices. The AR tool was first noticed on Google’s Pixel phones. It shows real-time navigation on Google Maps through the phone’s camera.
Users can hold their phone up next to streets to show their surroundings. Arrows will now appear on the app to show directions overlaid on the top of the camera view. It makes it easier to locate buildings, helps easy navigation and finding your destination.
New generation Android devices that support ARCore will have access. So will iPhones with ARKit support. The smart devices will be able to access the Google Maps Live View in the beta version.
To set up your phone to test out the Live View feature, do the following:
- Search for a location you will like to walk to on Google Maps
- Tap on the directions button at the bottom of the page
- Then select the walking man at the top of the screen to signify walking directions.
- Now tap on the new Live View option at the bottom of the screen.
This new update is part of a bigger update coming to Google Maps. The tech giants are looking to make the app the place to plan travel and map trips.
