Ginni Rometty will step down from her position as CEO of the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) and hand over to Arvind Krishna. The process is scheduled to be completed by April. Arvind Krishna who currently serves as senior vice president for IBM’s cloud and cognitive software will fill her shoes.
Although the announcement was made in January 2020, the whole transition phase will take about four months.
Ginni had joined the tech giants, IBM, as a systems engineer in 1981. Later, she headed global sales, marketing, and strategy. While serving as general manager of IBM’s global services division, in 2002 she helped negotiate IBM’s purchase of PricewaterhouseCoopers IT consulting business.
The above is one of the major highlights of her service. Since she became CEO in 2012, she has focused IBM on analytics, cloud computing, and cognitive computing systems.
Being the first woman to head the company and also one of the major bosses in the tech industry, Rometty is widely acclaimed.

Arvind Krishna who takes over from Ginni Rometty in April 2020 is an Indian American engineer and executive with IBM. Krishna had joined IBM in 1990 and was most recently senior vice president for IBM’s cloud and cognitive software. Which as we have stated is Ginni’s major movement in the company.
Also, he is credited as leading IBM’s acquisition of Red Hat for US$34 billion in 2018. Which again is one of Rometty’s major achievements. When he assumes office in April, he will be the fourth Indian-born head of a prominent US tech group.
Arvind will be entering the class of such executives as Satya Nadella of Microsoft; Sundar Pichai of Google; and Shantanu Narayen of Adobe.
When Ginni finally steps down, it would mean that there is no woman listed among the 16 top tech firms’ CEOs in the world. Ginni Rometty will turn 63 in July, three months after stepping down.
