ICYMI: Everything That Happened Last Night At The MTV VMAs

Did you come home late from work on Monday and just stumble straight to bed? Well, that was a big mistake, because last night, the MTV Video Music Awards happened and it was ICONIC!!! Here are a bunch of things that happened at the MTV VMAs.

1. Taylor Swift performed her hit song ‘You Need To Calm Down’ and promoted her Equality Act

Taylor Swift called for LGBT rights and equality. She has been more involved in politics lately. An accidental hat-tip to the “You Need To Calm Down” music video, John Travolta mistook Drag Taylor for the real Taylor and presented her award to Jade Jolie.

She also gave an emotional performance of her new ballad, “Lover”

This performance got the fans waving their hands and holding on to their lovers. Taylor’s album of the same name dropped on Friday and is already a huge success.

2. Lizzo performed “Truth Hurts” with a giant b**t on the stage:

She describes her music as “church service with a twerk”, and we definitely felt all that b**t-shaking soul. Although she did not win an award, she had the most engaging performance of the MTV VMAs.

3. Miley Cyrus gave an emotional performance of “Slide Away”

The heartbreaking song encompasses her recent split from longtime love and husband, Liam Hemsworth.

The 26-year-old’s performance aired in black-and-white, with the new song containing the lyrics: “Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost, so it’s time to let it go.” Cyrus’ parents, Billy Ray and Tish, were in the audience and applauded as their daughter left the stage.

4. Normani performed “Motivation” on a purple basketball court!

It was a boiling pot of hits from the years ago. Talk about a blast from the past!

10. We saved the best for last. Missy Elliott blew everyone away with a collection of classic hits.

Missy Elliott’s performance was nothing short of amazing, with stage designs and outfits switching in the blink of an eye. And then the most unexpected thing happened.

She brought not-so-little Alyson from her 2003 “Work It” music video up on the stage!

“Work It” won the Video of the Year at the 2003 MTV VMAs, so it was only right that it was performed because of what happened next.

Missy Elliott received her very well-deserved Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award
