On Friday, 26th April 2019, in less than a week, Avengers: Endgame will be hitting the cinemas. Different people have devised various plans on how they intend to watch it. Some already have clothes planned out. Meanwhile, some others have set up film buff dates, with others planning to ditch their partners and riding solo. All these plans are valid.
The moment that we have all been waiting on for 10 years is finally here. The moment all the Avengers come together to fight Thanos. It may be the longest of the Infinity Saga.
But, in anticipation, Plat4om has decided to do a compilation of films to catch up on in the meantime. This will be especially important if you are a newbie looking to catch up on the greatest superhero films of all time.
It is also great if you are trying to refresh your memories. This is a list of the past Avenger films in chronological order. You might need to free your entire week for this one.
1. Captain America: The First Avenger
This is the origin of the Avengers chronology. Released in 2011, it is the fifth Captain America film released. But this one is an original story set during World War II. However, at the end of the film, Captain America woke up in the present day. He became the very first avenger.
2. Iron Man
He became the first new generation superhero on Earth. Released in 2008, it was the first film released by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). By the end of the film, Nick Fury asked Stark to be a part of the Avengers Initiatives. However, when Captain Marvel premiered it replaced Iron Man as the second Avengers film.
3. Iron Man 2
This was the third one in the series, and the events in it took place before the events of the Incredible Hulk.
4. The Incredible Hulk
The post-credit scene shows that it concludes after Tony Stark finally starts working with the S.H.I.E.L.D.
5. Thor
Thor started out in Mjolnir but got banished to earth after he angered Odin. In the post-credit scene of Iron Man 2, Agent Coulson found Mjolnir. Thor then saved the world in the film and teamed up with Captain America, Iron Man and Incredible Hulk to start the team that made up the first Avengers film.
6. Avengers
This was the first film that put the other stories in perspective. The Avengers ended up saving the world. This ended the first phase.
7. Iron Man 3
This film was set six months after The Avengers. It follows up the events of the film with Tony Stark dealing with PTSD. It also finishes the Iron Man trilogy.
8. Thor: The Dark World
This one featured the God of Thunder in Asgard and his brother, Loki, imprisoned after his behaviour in The Avengers. The post-credit scene shows Sif and Volstagg taking Aether to the collector. This puts it before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy.
9. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
This film took place in 2014. It introduces new heroes in Falcon and The Winters Soldier, who was a bad guy.
10. Guardians of The Galaxy
The film takes place off the earth and introduced the cosmic Marvel Universe. The film should have happened 26 years after Peter Quill was stolen from the earth in 1988 — quick math, 2014.
11. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
This one comes next in the Avengers chronology. It was apparently supposed to be set three months after the first one. It’s why Groot was still a baby.
12. Avengers: Age of Ultron
This one brings all the heroes back together for another battle. It starts with the team charging the castle base. First introduced in the post-credit of Winter Soldier, it brings Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to the scene. This will be the last film where the team would work together in the Avengers chronology.
13. Ant-Man
It takes place a few months after Age of Ultron with Ant-Man having a face off with Falcon. The flashback scene was from before Captain Marvel.
14. Captain America: Civil War
Falcon brings in Ant-Man here to help Iron Man in the fight against the heroes who did not want to sign the accords. Spider-Man was also introduced to the series in this film when he shows up to help Iron Man.
15. Black Panther
The plot was set to after the events of the Civil War. T’Challa went home to become king after his father’s death. This was the introduction and story of Black Panther as well.
16. Spider-Man: Homecoming
The film showcases more of the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker that already started in the previous film.
17. Doctor Strange
The story of Doctor Strange began the same time as the Civil War, but he did not become a hero until after Homecoming.
18. Thor: Ragnarok
Thor meets Doctor Strange at the post-credit scene of the last film. This one brings two of the first Avengers back together, Hulk and Thor. Thanos also appears at the post-credit of this film.
19. Ant-Man and the Wasp
This film ends with his Ant-Man’s friends perishing at the snap of Thanos’ fingers, which happened during Infinity War.
20. Avengers: Infinity War
This slides in right where Thor: Ragnarok ends. It includes Black Panther after the events in his own film. It also had the disappearance snap from the post-credit of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
That brings the Avengers chronology to Avengers: Infinity War. This is easy to slide into this spot as the film starts off where Thor: Ragnarok ends. It includes Black Panther after the events in his standalone film and has the snap shown in the post-credits of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
That’s it! You are all set for the Avengers: Endgame. If you are lagging behind, it’s time to catch up.
