The results of an investigation by authorities into the hacking of Jeff Bezos’ phone has been revealed. A private investigator hired by the Amazon boss declared Saudi Arabia guilty of retrieving private information from his phone.

The PI, Gavin de Becker, linked the hack to the murder of Saudi reporter, Jamal Khashoggi who worked for the Washington Post. He had been hired to investigate how private messages about Bezos’ personal relationship leaked to the public. This link had something to do with the fact that Bezos owns The Post.

Becker said the investigators and experts had high confidence that the Saudis gained private information by getting access to Bezos’ phone. He also explained that he has provided the United States authorities with the findings.

Compromised

These allegations are coming two months after Jeff Bezos accused the National Enquirer of attempted extortion. He said the owners of the paper, American Media Incorporation (AMI), had threatened to publish compromising photos of him and his mistress. His mistress is an actress by the name Lauren Sanchez.

In January 2019, Jeff Bezos announced he and his wife MacKenzie Bezos were getting a divorce. The 25-year marriage ended over a series of flirty texts between Bezos and his mistress, Sanchez. The link between AMI and Saudi Arabia is still unclear, but investigations are still ongoing.

Jeff Bezos, who is currently the richest man, is worth an estimated $136.2 billion. If his ex-wife, MacKenzie Bezos receive half of her husband’s assets as divorce settlements, she would be worth more than $68 billion. It would make her fifth-richest person in the world. A one per cent payout would still make it one of the largest divorce settlements in history.
