Apple says iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max sales will be delayed

— If you are about to pre-order an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max, you may have to wait longer for it to come.
— Apple says supply is down due to covid restrictions in China.

Apple is facing production crisis for its top-of-the-line smartphones, iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. The company said that its factory in Zhengzhou, China, was operating at reduced capacity because of covid restrictions in the country.

A Reuters report, a month after the phone line debuted, projected that iPhone production could drop by 30% because of the policies in China. That projection is now coming to pass.

Speaking to investors and customers, the company said that if they pre-order the device, they would have to wait a bit longer for it to arrive.

“We continue to see strong demand for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. However, we now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products,” Apple said.

A report by The New York Times said that the covid restrictions had factories resorting to desperate methods to get more done. In one instance, the outlet said that Foxconn forced its 200,000 workers to stay inside the building with limited supplies for days. Workers eventually fled the factory when they got the opportunity.

The situation is China is why Apple has been working on taking some of its production business elsewhere. For example, it opened a factory in India that is now handling production of the vanilla iPhone 14.

With supply stunted, Apple anticipates a dwarfed Q4 earnings as its end-of-year plans involved selling as much of its premium iPhones as possible.
