iPhone 14 release could be delayed as production falls behind

iPhone 14 production has hit a couple of obstacles that could see force Apple to delay its release. According to reports coming out of China, COVID-19 shutdowns are currently the leading cause of concern for the Silicon Valley company.

Initially, the trouble that besieged iPhone 14 production chain was the global chip shortage (which also affected other electronic makers). However, things are getting even more difficult with the ongoing COVID-19 lockdowns in China.

As you may well know, Apple relies on Chinese production factories for a majority of its products, most especially, the iPhone. In fact, 9to5Mac had reported that more than 50 per cent of the company’s top suppliers are based in areas where the lockdown hit the most.

China’s decision to effect COVID lockdown regulations again is an attempt to rid the country of infection once and for all. And the new regulations were stricter than the ones it put in place at the beginning of the pandemic, according to some sources.

Although, there is hope that the lockdowns could gradually ease as Nikkei Asia claims. Yet, its report continues with the statement that Apple’s suppliers are in a footrace against time to make up for all the time that they have lost. The News company said:

“Development of at least one of Apple’s new flagship iPhones for this year has fallen behind schedule due to disruptions from the monthlong COVID lockdowns in China, Nikkei Asia has learned.

“Apple has told suppliers to speed up product development efforts to make up for the lost time, which in the worst-case scenario could impact the manufacturing schedule and initial production volumes of the new phones, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the matter said.”

Apple could go ahead with its September event and announce the iPhone 14 series as well. But the expectation is that the devices may not be available in the markets until at least November.
