TD Africa debuted “The HERawkening” on Tuesday 8th March to mark 2022’s edition of International Women’s Day.
The initiative geared towards empowering female Nigerian entrepreneurs took place at Tech Experience Centre, 13 Idowu Martins Victoria Island, Lagos.
In her address, Country Manager (Nigeria & Ghana) Microsoft, Ola Williams who spoke on the topic, “Staying Ahead in the Digital Age“ advised women to embrace technology so they can stay updated about what is happening in the world.
She also emplored women to get mentors, be open to mentoring other women as they join relevant communities.
Teju Ajani, Managing Director (Nigeria) Apple Inc talked about “Thriving in competition”. In her address, she explained the importance for women to know themselves while finding their niche.
She told them to develop themselves and adapt to changing times. Be ready for opportunities, learn to walk away and be bold, adaptable, strong and willing to reflect on yourself.

Biodun Olubitan Head Women Banking Access Bank talked about the “W” initiative aimed at supporting women in business. This initiative, according to her, is a platform by Access Bank for the empowerment of women in business with financial & lifestyle solutions and advisory facilities for investments.
Olubitan revealed that the benefits of “The “W” Power Loan” includes flexible repayment plans, relaxed collateral requirements and competitive interest rates.
Obis Oragwu, founder, Wardrobe Merchant, spoke on the 21st-century woman at the HERwakening. In her words, such a woman has balance and is capable of keeping her home and career. The fashion influencer advised women to pursue self care and be intentional about their life.
She also advised them to be fashionable, because it is important they see themselves as a brand. Obis listed core areas where a woman who wants to succeed in the 21st century must focus on to include, finance, family time, career, networking, self-care, health and fitness, fashion, goals, ethics & value, and structure.
In her closing address, the CEO TD Africa Chioma Ekeh reflected on the strength of a woman.
She described the 21st-century woman as hardworking, strong and a trailblazer.
Chioma Ekeh appreciated her husband, Leo Ekeh, for his support for women in the Zinox group. She equally thanked the staff of TD Africa, the organizers of the event and the guest speakers.
The HERwakening 2022 was a moment for women to network and reflect on their potential and ability to change their environment and the world at large.
