“I’ll never be CEO again,” former Twitter boss Jack Dorsey says

Former Twitter boss Jack Dorsey has made it clear that he never wants to be the company’s CEO ever again.

In response to a Tweet from Charles Wieand, on May 11, Dorsey vehemently rejected taking up the job of leading the company that he’d co-founded. He said:

It is not clear why Wieand came up with the original Tweet in the first place. However, the comedian and YouTuber’s post surely caught Jack’s eyes. Although, Musk had not replied the Tweet at the time this article was published.

Dorsey’s reply has resurrected the question of what caused him to step down as CEO in 2021. Several camps have their versions of what could have transpired. For some, the company’s board had pushed him out because he was not focused on increasing revenue for investors. Some others believed his attention was divided between running the social media company and Square, and he needed to make the big move to focus.

Jack had previously left the company in 2008 before coming back as CEO about eight years later, in 2015. His most recent departure was a long time coming, and he claimed that his reason for leaving was to move the company in a different direction. “There’s a lot of talk about the importance of a company being ‘founder-led’. Ultimately I believe that’s severely limiting and a single point of failure,” he had said.

Jack left and decided to distance himself as much as possible from the company. When asked to serve as the board chairman, he claimed that he wanted to allow the new CEO, Parag, to run things his way.

Now, it seems that Dorsey is reiterating his statement of being done with Twitter in a managerial capacity.
