On Tuesday 21st July 2020, reports from financial experts and news sources claimed that Jeff Bezos added an astonishing $13 billion to his net worth in one day. They claim that the world’s richest man and Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, made all of the $13 billion on Monday 20th July 2020.
According to a TIME magazine report, this is a record single-day income jump for one person since Bloomberg created the Billionaires Index in 2012.
Bezos’ net worth has now risen from $74 billion to $189.3 billion in 2020. This is notable when one considers that the global pandemic had hit many people’s sources of income.
Additionally, his ex-wife, Mackenzie Bezos, who owns some major stocks in Amazon also made $4.6 billion by the end of Monday.

All of this can be traced to the fact that online shopping has increased drastically since the pandemic hit. People are now opting to buy things online instead of physically working into stores in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
This also explains why Apoorva Mehta, the CEO of Instacart also became a billionaire amidst the global pandemic. Mehta’s Instacart was also another major beneficiary of online shopping.
With his surging wealth, it seems that Jeff Bezos is on track to become the world’s first-ever trillionaire by 2026; as financial experts had predicted in May.
However, the online shopping industry is not the only beneficiary of the lockdown measures. Other aspects of the tech industry like; gaming, social media, streaming, and others have all seen a good turn-out from the pandemic.
