Celebrated journalist Kiki Mordi has been called out by another journalist Oge Obi for allegedly stealing her work in the viral BBC investigative report, S*x for Grades.
According to the allegations which have been corroborated by another famous journalist Ruona Meyer, Kiki Mordi was not the brain behind #Sexforgrades for which she’s now received several awards including an Emmys nomination.
Kiki, make sure this time you at least share whatever prize money there is with O.O and acknowledge her – given this was all her story as pitched, sourced/started.
Real journalists have honour and also hold themselves to account, not just the government. #TruthIsSacrosanct https://t.co/gvmQ42IeFo— Ruona J. Meyer (@RGAMeyer) December 10, 2020
It’s also alleged that Oge Obi was the journalist who went undercover to bust cases of rampant s*xual abuse by lecturers in West African universities.
According to the story, as narrated by one Harri Obi who claims to know both journalists, Oge Obi #sexforgrades was Obi’s idea, she did the research and went undercover, not Kiki Mordi.
S*x for Grades was conceptualized, pitched, researched and co-produced by Oge Obi.
Kiki Mordi was simply hired to do the TV narration part and somehow it blew. But that’s not a problem.
The problem is she’s winning international grants worth millions and refusing to share it. https://t.co/GfEdJftiwM

Kiki Mordi only allegedly reported the story, IE, she voiced the visuals. Oge Obi now claims Mordi never gave her due credit but took all the awards and money grants, while parading herself as the brain behind #Sexforgrades.
Oge is hands down one of the smartest persons I’ve ever met. And I meet smart people a lot. I’m sure she’ll get her deserved accolades sooner than later.
If there’s one thing we all have to pick from this, it is that S*x for Grades was her brain and hand work, not Kiki Mordi. https://t.co/IRUPwxKg7M

Lol. How did Oge let Kiki be the face of the undercover piece that brought her to international limelight? I can never fumble that kinda bag. Lol.
But speaking as someone who used to be friends with both ladies, I’m not shocked. Oge had to be the brains.

Kiki was simply hired to narrate the story. She wasn’t the undercover Journo in the lecturers’ offices, she didn’t come up with the idea, wasn’t in charge of research, etc. Her job was just to vibe on TV, and months down the line she has Emmy & MTV noms?
Feminist Hushpuppi. 😂

In response, Kiki Mordi tweeted taking a swipe at Ruona Meyer while she insisted that she’s the reporter.
Every new day I win an award, Ruona loses it. I will never understand what I did to this woman besides unfollowing her on Twitter😭

One minute you’re advising me on how to hog clout and not retweet Fisayo Soyombo’s story. Because I figured you were a vile person, you left me and found your next victim . 50 minutes call the first time you ever spoke to me was to tell me who to hate and who not to hate??? pic.twitter.com/sNGl5ugUZs

Kiki Mordi also added that other questions should be directed to BBC.
There is no side to any story. Investigative journalism is dangerous work. I am the reporter on #SexForGrades
Any other questions will have to be directed to the BBC
Don’t be roped into Ruona’s joblessness. This isn’t local media where people do what they like 😂— Commander of the Feminist Battalion (@kikimordi) December 10, 2020
