Epic Games has announced another delay of Fortnite’s next in-game live event and the start of its next season. This time the reason is due to widespread outrage and protests around the world over the death of George Floyd.

The death of Floyd, who was gruesomely suffocated over a fake dollar bill accusation, has sparked ongoing protests against police brutality around the US and other parts of the world.

Fortnite’s in-game live event, titled “The Device,” will now hold on 15th June 2020. Its next season, known as Chapter 2 Season 3, will also begin on 17th June 2020.

“We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing. We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics.

“The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities. We know this delay comes on the heels of another one, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times”, Epic said in a blog post.

This is Epic’s third delay in starting the new season and its second delay of The Device. The first delay for the start of the new season was announced in April 2020, and the second just last week. The Device event was delayed for the first time last week.

Epic is not alone in delaying its event due to the protests arising from George Floyd’s murder. Sony postponed a PS5 event it had planned for 4th June 2020 while EA postponed the announcement of Madden 21. Google also postponed unveiling the new features of Android 11.
