The most prestigious music awards in Nigeria, Headies Awards, has annouced nominations for its 2020 edition.This year-in-review is between July 2019 to September 2020.

 

Nigeria has had a very full and quite unusual year, musically. The cancellations of shows due to Covid-19 restrictions saw many artists churning out music with more frequency than before so it’s not much of a surprise that this year’s Headies is very much anticipated.

 

Burna boy, Fireboy, Davido, and Tiwa Savage are leading the pack with the most nominations.

Tems, Omah Lay, Oxlade, Bella Shmurda were nominated for one of the most coveted category; Next-rated award.

 

This year’s will also feature a new category; Songwriter of The Year Award. This is to promote the culture of songwriting in afrobeats and also, beam spotlight on writers contributing to the industry. Another new category, Best Alternative Album has also being introduced to The Headies.
