“Leave My Boy Alone”- Angelique Kidjo Warns Burna Boy’s Critics

Grammy-award-winning Beninoise singer Angelique Kidjo has told Burna Boy’s critics to back off her boy. Angelique Kidjo on Twitter: "❤️❤️❤️!!! 🎶 🇳🇬 🇧🇯 The future is One Africa! @burnaboy… "

The singer who formed a friendship with Burna Boy after he lost the grammy awards in 2020 gave an interview to Smooth FM Lagos.

During the conversation, the host asked what she thought of the general public’s perception of Burna Boy’s ego and unapologetic nature.

Responding to the question, Kidjo ordered critics to leave him alone.

“That’s the way to do, because he knows what he is talking about.

“When you’re talented, yes, you have to have humility but that doesn’t mean you’re going to walk on yourself and apologize. For what? I’m good at what I do. You don’t like it? Sorry! If it was an African-American person having that attitude, nobody would say anything.

“That’s my boy mehn! Let him do his stuff. If you don’t like it, sorry for you… You leave my boy alone!”

The two African heavyweight singers struck a friendship after she consoled him for losing to her at the Grammys “Best World Music Album” category in 2020.

Kidjo had given him a shoutout as she received her award and went on to speak at length to a distraught Burna Boy after the ceremony.

The “Way Too big” singer has come under fire repeatedly for his seemingly proud nature. His first big controversy was when he insisted Coachella write his name in bigger fonts after he was invited to perform at the music fest in 2019. He declared himself an “African Giant”, insisted he would not tolerate such belittling font, and ordered Coachella to fix up. This earned him lingering backlash. He went on to name his 2019 internationally acclaimed album “African Giant”.

Burna Boy is quite famous for his controversial statements, causing him to trend almost every time he decides to tweet.
