There might just be a Funeral this weekend. Lil Wayne just dropped his anticipated studio album, “Funeral”. This project follows the highly-anticipated yet long-delayed “Tha Carter V” album which arrived in 2018 after a years-long delay.
“Funeral” is Weezy’s thirteenth solo studio album and his first project overall in about a year and a half. By his standards, that is a long wait. Lil Wayne has since been teasing the 24-track album excitedly, sharing tweets to keep his fans on the edge of their seats. “Funeral” was first mentioned in November 2016, more than three years ago.

The album was briefly uploaded on Lil Wayne’s official YouTube channel, but then every song was removed within the hour. The album includes “features that you wouldn’t expect” like Big Sean, Lil Baby, the late XXXTentacion, Jay Rock, Adam Levine, 2 Chainz, O.T. Genasis, The-Dream, Takeoff and more. It contains a total of 24 songs.

Last year, Wayne toured North America with blink-182. He also teamed up with Birdman and Juvenile for a new song, and was featured on a Travis Barker track with Rick Ross. He made a handful of other guest appearances in 2019 alongside Lil Tjay, 2 Chainz, and Big K.R.I.T.
Funeral has a more current feel than his previous albums. Speaking to XXL in 2019, the rapper said,
“With me, what the new thing is for me is actually trying to put out music that sounds like a little more like today’s music.”
During an interview with N.O.R.E. for TIDAL’s “Drink Champs” podcast, he explained the title’s significance. Wayne said:
“We just playing off all the s**t I already dropped. I’ve dropped Rebirth so we going to the Funeral,” said Wayne. “Don’t have expectations please ’cause I will definitely exceed every single one, so just listen to it open-minded.”
