Germany’s Sony Music division has unveiled a massive statue of superstar Beyonce. The bust was a recreation of her promo photo for her Netflix special, “Homecoming.”
A member of the Beyhive affectionately called the fixture in Berlin, #BigBeyonceInBerlin.
The statue mirrors what legendary pop star Michael Jackson once requested for. At the time, when record executives asked him what he had in mind to promote his album, “HIStory,” in 1995, he said:
“Build a statue of me.”
“HIStory” is said to be one of the most expensive album roll-outs in music history as it totalled to nearly $39 million! At the time, Sony had built nine 32-feet-tall steel and fibreglass statues which had been strategically placed in European cities.
Therefore, Beyonce’s statue in Berlin, Germany should position her on the icon list. However, singer-songwriter Dionne Warwick doesn’t seem to think so. She believes Queen Bey is yet to arrive at the iconic status.
In an interview, she said this about Queen Bey:
“I love her to death and can appreciate her talent. But that iconic status? It’s a long road [ahead].”
Although it is unclear who the artiste behind the Beyonce statue is, the crowd seemed ecstatic about it. They gave a huge round of applause during the unveiling at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany.
