2019 Winner of Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) beauty pageant, Nyekachi Douglas, has opened on the hardships that affected her reign.
Douglas, who handed over the crown to her successor Oluchi Madubuike on Saturday 18th September, took to her Instagram page on Monday to speak on the roadblocks she faced in achieving her goal while she held the crown as the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria.
“In the very last moments, it was hard. It was the longest but at the same time the shortest reign. It felt like I did so much but got so little. Sometimes I didn’t want to be called Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria because of how hard it was. I hated myself because I felt like I should be doing more. Sometimes I hated @mbgn_silverbird @silverbirdmbgn organizer because I felt they were not doing enough. Sometimes I hated the fight of an African Woman because I started to feel like the crazy one when I asked for what we deserved. I questioned myself and the fight”

Nyekachi Douglas also advised women to be goal getters and people who aren’t afraid of asking for what they deserve.
“My dear African women in any stage of life you are in, you are not crazy when you ask for what you deserve. You are not doing the most when you demand change and become the change you want to see. Rather, you are the hero. When they say “this is how things have been done for the past 100 years,” tell them that the system is wrong. Remember why you started and find a way to finish. This is a picture of me knowing my worth and demanding it. Standing firm on the ground with my head held high above any reason to doubt myself or the fight I started. Let this give you hope on your journey, remind you that you are not crazy when you demand change and become the change you want to see”.
23-year-old Nyekachi Douglas made Nigeria proud by surmounting all odds and making it to the top five overall out of 111 contestants at the 2019 Miss World pageant. She was also named Miss World Africa.
