MediaTek Announces A New 5G Chipset With Advanced Gaming Features

With the changing smartphone scene, chipset makers are stepping up their game and MediaTek just introduced a new 5G processor called the Dimensity 800+. This comes just days after Qualcomm had announced a new processor as well.

To keep up with the pace of smartphone makers’ advancement, processor makers have to keep innovating. This year, in January, MediaTek had announced two 5G chipsets, the Dimensity 800 and Dimensity 1000.

Now, it is teasing a new one if a post from the company on Weibo is to be trusted. This new processor will be named the Dimensity 800+, according to GSM Arena. It will be an upgrade of the Dimensity 1000+ that the tech firm had unveiled with the Vivo iQOO Z1.

For now, there is no detail on what to expect from the processor except what the above-referenced blog says, “a mightier GPU and improved features for gaming”. Also, it will clearly support 5G network connectivity as it has become the trend for smartphones now.

The company will be launching Dimensity 800+ on 18th May 2020.

In case you missed the news, Qualcomm had announced a new processor on 11th May 2020. The processor is the Snapdragon 768G and it may take some months before we start to see smartphones using this processor. This is because Qualcomm’s recent Snapdragon 765-powered devices are just entering the market.

The Verge says that the new Snapdragon will have a CPU speed of between 2.8GHz and 2.4GHz. This represents about 15 percent improved performance when compared to the 765G.

Both MediaTek and Qualcomm are trying to maintain their place in the worldwide ranking of Smartphone SOCs. A recent chart on Tech Centurion ranks Apple’s A13 Bionic first before Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865, Samsung’s Exynos 990, and then, MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000.
