Automakers, Mercedes-Benz has launched a concept car Vision AVTR at the Customer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 in Las Vegas. This concept car is inspired by the 2009 movie, Avatar.
The theme of the car’s launch was Vision AVTR. Since it is a concept car, it may not be making it to the market anytime soon or like some products displayed, never. A video from The Verge explained that 33 bionic flaps cover the rear of the car and they look like scales.
These scales can contact other cars on the road to prevent accidents and crashes.
Looking at the wheels, it is designed with some sort of fluorescence. It reminds one of the lighting creatures in the movie that initially inspired this production. It also allows the car to move in any direction including diagonal movements.
Vision AVTR is controlled using a sensor in the center of the car. This sensor rises to meet the hand and can recognise the driver’s heartbeat and breathing patterns. It is also the only way to ‘communicate’ with the car as there is no gear, steering nor pedals.

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of the Daimler Group, explained where the inspiration came from:
“The world of Avatar is a cosmos full of new shapes and colors, and such inspirations are inherently inspiring for designers.”
Also, Mercedes-Benz is trying to cut down on carbon emissions in the atmosphere with this electric car. This is also evident in the fact that the car was made entirely from recycled material; the insides were from recyclable plastics.
The aim of designers is to make the car seem like a living thing.
However, Vision AVTR is not Mercedes-Benz’s first electric car. It had announced at the 2019 LA Auto Show that its EQC SUV costing $67,900 will be available in the U.S. this year, 2020.
Despite not being the only electric SUV in the market, it is one of the cheapest. As Jaguar I-Place, Audi E-Tron and Tesla Model X are more expensive. There are, however, cheaper products from Kia and Hyundai, though not as luxurious.
