Automobile company Mercedes Benz is recalling 26,584 vehicles for unsecured batteries. The recall will affect 2018-2019 Mercedes Benz C-Class models. All C300 and AMG C43 car models that were built between August 2018 and July 2019 are affected by the defect.
The German automaker said the 12-volt battery bracket may not feature the proper manufacturing specifications. This issue means that, in the event of a crash, the battery will disconnect from the terminals.
Eventually, this will affect post-crash functions that require a power supply. Things like the hazard light will, therefore, probably not work. Also, the battery could fly off the car and then become a road hazard for other drivers.
Drivers of these cars may also notice that the battery isn’t properly secured. Chances are that there may be some knocking or rattling from the car’s engine compartment while the car is in motion.
Mercedes-Benz is now asking owners of these specifications of cars to visit the company’s car dealership to handle the issue with their batteries. They say a technician will be there to install a new mounting brace in the car for free. However, there won’t be any reimbursement as the cars are still under the company’s warranty.
Owners of these vehicles in the US will have notices in their mailboxes by October 8, 2019.
