Metaverse Horizon Worlds avatars to get legs

The metaverse app, Horizon Worlds, is getting a major upgrade to see its avatars get legs. Before now, the characters were just creepy things with hovering upper bodies.

The news comes alongside the newly announced mixed reality headgear, the Meta Quest Pro, with a premium price tag of $1,500. And it appears that the company’s dream of a virtual world for gaming and communication is finally taking shape.

Horizon Worlds has been in the news a lot lately as the company is ramping up plans for a metaverse that works as well as the real world. With bug fixes at the top of its to-do list, nothing is stopping Meta from adding another realistic feature, legs.

Metaverse developers have settled for legless avatars because of the difficulty of adding it to virtual reality systems. However, the company has finally found a workaround for the problem.

Meta built an AI model that can predict what a person’s leg is doing from their body position. This way, the VR headset is not burdened with the job of trying to figure it out.

Although Mark Zuckerberg showed off the new feature at the Meta Connect event on October 11, he did not say when it would be released on the platform. In addition to legs in Horizon Worlds, the company is also planning to make the avatars available in Reels videos, Messenger video chats, and WhatsApp video chats.
