How To Celebrate Michael Jackson’s Posthumous 61st Birthday!

Today is the posthumous birthday of the late multitalented award-amassing King of Pop, Michael Jackson. He is one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century and one of the greatest entertainers who ever lived.

Before his tragic death in 2009, he broke numerous records including having five Billboard Number 1 hits from one album and having the best-selling album of all time.

Michael Jackson also broke the Guinness World Record for the most successful entertainer of all time. And as of 2006, he was the most awarded person ever.

Even after his death, he still broke records. According to Forbes in 2016, Jackson had been the top-earning dead celebrity each year since his death in 2009.

Despite his flaws and checkered past, he was a phenomenal entertainer and a game-changer for the music industry. He inspired so many artists to go into music, blazed the trail, and pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable.

Michael Jackson’s music transcended race and nationality. It was a uniting factor a lot of people, and he was the most recognised person in the whole world. In honour of Michael Jackson, here are a bunch of things you can do to celebrate his 61st birthday.

1. Listen to his discography

For Michael Jackson’s birthday, you can jam to his megahit songs. Start from his Jackson 5 years or just play them on shuffle. You might get a sense of what influenced a lot of today’s stars. Who knows? You might even get inspired yourself.

2. Dress like Mike

Throw on a fedora or some jump-up black trousers to show off your white socks. If that is too much for you or if you are already out of the house, fold up a handkerchief and wrap it around your forearm. Don’t forget to shimmy a little when you walk.

3. Dance!

One thing Michael Jackson was well known for was his dancing. We are all familiar with the moonwalk, followed by a spin and then his trademark toe-stand with its freeze-frame pose that made the crowds go wild. But if you can’t dance, you can incorporate his signature moves by moonwalking everywhere you go or stylishly zipping up your trousers.

4. Watch his videos

Aside from being one of the pioneer celebrities featured on MTV, Michael Jackson had a bunch of films. Whether they were documentaries from his tours or external analyses of his life, there are some pretty interesting gems you find when you google “Michael Jackson video”.

5. Do some good

Michael Jackson

One thing Michael Jackson was very passionate about was his causes. He was involved with many humanitarian and environmentalist organisations. So for his birthday, try doing something to heal the world. Plant a tree or give money to someone who needs it. Share your blessings with the world.
