Microsoft is preparing to invest $10 billion in OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company that made ChatGPT and DALL-E.
This will not be the first time that the multinational corporation is backing the startup financially. In 2019, it had put $1 billion into the company and is credited as one of its success stories.
Reports claim that Microsoft is not alone as other firms could also be involved in putting money into the company. Recall that OpenAI’s goal for 2023 includes raising $29 billion in funding. Given the usefulness of its products, raising that sum may not be a challenge.

While Microsoft and OpenAI did not comment on the news about funding, the two have been in the news quite a lot this new year. Earlier, there were sources saying that Microsoft would bundle ChatGPT with its search engine, Bing. And, it could also add it to its Office suite.
It is not yet clear how this would happen but it could include using ChatGPT as a special feature for Bing users to get more done in search. Also, Bing could be the default browser that the AI suggests for users when it has to search the internet to answer their queries.
OpenAI has said that it was eyeing a $200 million revenue by the end of 2023 and could achieve this by charging ChatGPT and DALL-E premium users per result generated. Although, this could discourage many of its current users, who can’t afford to pay and are using its products because it is free.
Microsoft will control about 75% of the company’s profits until it repays all its investment and then, it would own a 49% stake in it.
Would you pay per cent for generating response in ChatGPT if it comes to that?
