The new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge suffers some language glitches that threaten its popularity. However, this is not the first time Microsoft’s browser will be facing this challenge.
Back in 2016, users had complained about getting the browser in a language other than theirs. Despite having a primary language on their computers, Microsoft Edge came installed a different language.
A user, JoshuaWitte had complained:
“I have had my laptop for 8-9 months and everything has worked fine. However, tonight completely out of nowhere, my Microsoft edge browser switched the news posts to Japanese.
“The browser tells me that English is the default (and only downloaded) language. Everything else is in English, but the news feed is completely in Japanese. How can I revert it back to English again?”
Now, it is 2020, amidst the war of browsers and Microsoft fell short again. On 15th January 2020, the day its Chromium-based version became available for download, users started lodging complaints on Twitter. One tweeted:
Microsoft edge decide I speak Chinese….I installed English , but Chinese language is installed ,very https://t.co/cQjawzafNq excitement for new edge vanished in less than an hour.kudos edge team

@Microsoft @MicrosoftEdge Hey team, I’m trying to download Microsoft Edge for Mac OS, but each time I try to select Mac OS, I get the terms and conditions in a different language. I have confirmed that the language in my browser is English. pic.twitter.com/Q5M3DYYltR

The developers themselves confirmed the issue and are currently working on fixing it. They said:
We’ve seen some reports about the browser being installed in a language other than the expected language. Our team is aware and working diligently to resolve. Please keep an eye out here for any updates!
