Microsoft considering the impact of ending support for older Windows 10 versions during the coronavirus lockdown, has decided to extend support for six more months.
Thus, while Microsoft had fixed the date of ending support for these versions for Tuesday, 14th April 2020, it will keep sending it until 13th October 2020. The version that would have stopped getting Microsoft updates on Tuesday is Windows 10, version 1709 (Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise).
In addition to this, it has also extended the date for the end of support for Windows 10, version 1809 (Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, IoT Core). So, instead of it meeting an end of support by 12th May, Microsoft will end it by 10th November 2020.
These extensions will come as a relief for IT admins and others who are in charge of supporting employees working from home. Microsoft also disclosed that the extensions cover Windows Server version 1809, Configuration Manager version 1810, SharePoint Server 2010, SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Project Server 2010.

However, Office 2010, Project 2010, Office 2016 for Mac, and Office 2013 are not part of this. The company announced, according to The Verge, that it will go ahead to end support for these versions.
Microsoft explains that the decision on end of support extension came after some deliberations with concerned parties. It issued a statement regarding this saying:
“Microsoft has been deeply engaged with customers around the world who are impacted by the current public health situation. As a member of the global community, we want to contribute to reducing the stress our customers face right now.”
During the lockdown period to curtail the spread of the coronavirus; Microsoft is upping its game to keep more people using its products. While it has been rolling out features for Microsoft Teams, its video conferencing tool, it is still big on security. This is why, without missing, it rolled out new security patches for April as it regularly does.
