Microsoft will finalise a deal to acquire ZeniMax Media, for $7.5 billion. ZeniMax Media is the parent company of Doom and Fallout studio, Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda games had earlier been available on the Xbox Game Pass on console and PC. The acquisition gives Microsoft control of upcoming games like the space epic, Starfield.
According to Microsoft, future Bethesda games, including Starfield, will launch on Xbox Game Pass the day they are available on Xbox or PC. The acquisition also coincides with the arrival of Microsoft’s latest next-gen consoles. The software giants announced two consoles; the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S just last week.

This might affect future Bethesda games across different platforms, including the Bethesda-published Arkane game, Deathloop, as they were previously announced as a timed PlayStation 5 and PC exclusive. With the game developers now part of the Microsoft gaming conglomerate, that might change.
The ZeniMax Media acquisition also means that Microsoft now has a total of 23 internal studios. This is following the addition of Bethesda sub-studios like Dishonored developer Arkane, Wolfenstein studio MachineGames, Doom maker id Software, and The Evil Within studio Tango Gameworks.
Nothing will change leadership-wise for Bethseda though as Microsoft says it will retain its existing leadership. “We’re still working on the same games we were yesterday, made by the same studios we’ve worked with for years, and those games will be published by us,” Bethesda marketing head Pete Hines wrote in a statement.
