Microsoft Is Adding More Features To The People’s Forgotten Skype

You probably have forgotten about Skype, but Microsoft is adding more features to the older video calling platform. Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about its first teleconferencing platform, despite its popular Microsoft Teams app.

The Redmond based company says Skype’s latest update would make the app faster, modern and more stable. Available in the new update is a redesigned layout, themes and other cool features.

Microsoft says the future of skype would be fast, playful, delightful & buttery smooth. Skype’s call stage is getting refresh with beautiful themes. Each person on the stage call is at the focus, while there is a natural grid showing others.

Let’s says a user wants to share their screen or activates the “Together mode”. This used to appear at the top of the bar in a small view. The new update shows larger video feeds in the top bar increasing the preview.

Microsoft also says it has worked hard on performance for the Skype desktop and App platforms. Performance has increased by 30% and over 2,000% of Android according to the Redmond company.

Teleconferencing uses a lot of data, so Microsoft has added an option to disable video stream and hide audio-only participants from the popular calling stage. Aesthetically, Microsoft is adding colourful backgrounds behind the avatars of audio-only participants.

It’s a goodbye to the old dull grey backgrounds of the old Skype. That’s not all, just like all other popular messaging apps, there are now; animated backgrounds, together mode, call recordings and live subtitles.

Microsoft also says its redesigned Skype app now supports all the popular browsers. The company is trying hard to make sure the experience is the same across all browsers.

Despite Microsoft’s Team app, the company newest update to Skype brings the teleconferencing app at par with the newer Teams. Users who are already used to Skype’s platform can be certain, they are getting the best.
