Microsoft Partner OEMs Begin To Ship Out Windows 11 SE Laptops

Microsoft OEM partners have started shipping out low-cost windows 11 SE laptops to the general public. These laptops will be going up against the Chromebooks, and they will be sold specifically to the education and school industry.

This special version of Windows 11 is already optimised to run Microsoft productivity and education tools such as Office, Edge, and its Cloud services. Also, IT personnel can run an approved selection of other apps on these laptops such as Chrome, Zoom and others.

Microsoft is positioning this operating system to be successful, all apps will run full screen. Also, multitasking using Snap Layouts would be on a side-by-side layout while Widgets will not exist.

Google’s Chromebooks are currently the best offering of laptops designed for classrooms, students and the general education sector. These laptops are lightweight, fast and offer productivity on the go with media consumption tools.

Paige Johnson, head of Microsoft’s education marketing says that “Windows 11 SE also supports third-party apps, including Zoom and Chrome, because we want to give schools the choice to use what works best for them.”

Microsoft also says that Windows 11 SE won’t ship with the Microsoft Store. The company will be allowing IT admins for schools and educational institutions to have their own third-party apps installed.

A lot of Laptop manufacturers like HP, Acer, Asus and Lenovo have Windows 11 SE variants of their existing laptops. Hp’s new ProBook Fortis 14-inch G9 Notebook, Acer’s  TravelMate Spin B3 laptop and Asus’s BR1100F laptop are some prime examples.

Microsoft’s own $249 Surface Laptop SE would be directly competing with the entry-level Chromebooks available in the market. Most of these laptops offer some form of ruggedness, value and are low cost.
